ABOUT...
Dane
Alexander graduated from QUT with a Bachelor of Music in 2006
majoring in Composition and Production.
Dane
began his music career as a professional drummer. He picked
up international sponsorships from the age of 17 and toured
extensively with Raw Dance Company and as a solo artist. As
a performer, Dane has supported and played alongside Michael
Jackson, Jesse McCartney, Sophie Monk, Guy Sebastian, The Go
Betweens, Fast Crew, The BokMastaz (ex-member), The Optimen,
DJ Catkid, Joel Turner, Tom Thumb, The Cat Empire, Jack Chambers
and many more…
During
these early years, Dane also composed for a number of contemporary
theatre and performance art productions including David Fenton’s
Unstable Acts, with members of Zen Zen Zo and The Danger Ensemble;
and Accented Body, an international collaboration of sound,
visuals and dance.
In
2006, Dane was poached by Andy Arthurs and Darren Clark from
Creative Media Warehouse (The Ten Tenors) to run the electronic
sector for Deep Blue Orchestra's performances at the Brisbane
Festival. Dane is now the Audio Coordinator, Electronic Music
Director, on the list of international composers and arrangers,
and performs electronically using laptops and gestural controllers.
Venues
around Australia voted Deep Blue the most outstanding audience
response from any touring show for 2008, awarding them the APACA
Drovers Award for 'Excellent Audience Response'.
After a couple of years of extensive national touring, and multiple
sellout performances at Brisbane's QPAC, the orchestra had the
pleasure of working with acclaimed director/choreographer Keith
Hawley (Tap Dogs) to produce their brand new show, "The
Dream". A season of shows were performed at the intimate
LaBoite Roundhouse Theatre in October 2009.Woodford Folk Festival
invited the orchestra to perform each night of the renowned
festival at the Amphitheatre Stage. In June, DBO are travelling
to China for a week of performances at the 2010 World Expo in
Shanghai.
Dane
has produced full-length theatre production soundtracks for
internationally touring dance companies, including Urban Wonderland
for Raw Dance Company and Full Metal Racket for Raw Dance Company
with Grant Collins. Dane has produced corporate soundtracks
for internationally renowned/ranked break-dance crew, Skill@Will,
and international events including the 2006 Commonwealth Games
Cultural Festival.
Dane
coordinated the sound and technical specifications, operation
and ProTools for the 2008 Art of Record Production Conference
featuring producers Hank Shocklee (Public Enemy), Richard Lush
(The Beatles), Philip Williams (Status Quo), Daniel Denholm
(Midnight Oil) to name a few…
Dane
is the Electronic Music Ensemble Director at Queensland University
of Technology pushing the up and coming electronic musicians
to collaborate with bigbands, choirs and orchestras to create
new and exciting electronic performances.
Fusing
60's/70's psychedelic rocknroll with dirty electronica, Dane
Alexander, Reuben Staines and Brenton Fitzgerald are GOODBYE
GRAVITY! The group had their debut performance in May 2010.
In
the coming academic year, Dane will commence a Master of Creative
Industries at QUT.
Dane's
meticulousness and never quit attitude has made him sought after
